Stuff...

My notebook, for the... what was it, third... forth... time ever since I owned it, the adaptor gone kaput. Again. Again! And I only had it changed just last month! I'll get around to taking it to the shops eventually to get a replacement... whenever that'll be...

So in the mean time, no pictures of stuff I've been making cos I always photoshop the pictures to get the colour balance right and edit and crop and etc and etc.

Also means I can't get access to my Illustrator software, always handy to have. I got a birthday present idea to do soonish, guess I would have to get that new adaptor soon.

Made a whole bunch of stripy purple and pink small journals, been trying to use up all the pinks and purples in the studio. Already sold one off, less than 5 minutes after I finished binding it, no kidding. I still got a stack of sections to bind into covers I haven't made yet. I want to get them out of the way and clear up some table space.

Still got several standing orders to do. And I recieved another one few days ago. Client likes those thai handmade paper with the dried flowers which I got a stack off, a good opportunity to use them up. Lets see, off the top of my head, one custom, a wedding order, a money journal, and an album. I like to finish them all before I go on my trip next month.

Trip next month to buy scuba diving gear! Yay! It will actually be a non art supply trip cos of the resolve this year, spend less and use up content in studio.

Sweetie's sister came back from Berlin few days ago and she brought back a bunch of art supplies for me! So cool! Oh yeah, need to make journal sketch books for her too. The materials and buttons she bought are soo cute which I'm going to use for the covers. With the amount she bought I think I could make two large books and a small one, maybe, not too sure yet.

I got commissioned to do 5 paintings for my brother for his house. He's adding on an extension and new wall spaces to hang art on. Fantastic!

I finally decided to take up a personal trainer, I've been recording my workouts and food intake every day. I'm only a week into it so far... and I've already lost half an inch on my waist and hips :-p

Art night tonight at Canopy, attempting to do the Catapillar binding. Have never done it.

Tutorial: Invitation To Gift Card

There's nothing like being an aunt that makes arty and crafty stuff doesn't it. My niece was staying with us for a bit and during that time she had a birthday party to go to. My mom asked me to make a small card to go with the present and showed me the invite.

I could dig out stuff and make a card using what I have in the studio but why waste a perfectly good invite? The prints on it looks fun. Plus I'm big on recycling or repurposing. So...

We just need a small card right, and there is nothing what a craft knife, ruler, scissors and glue can't handle. Plus it's fun!

I just needed to stiffen the card up and used a scrap piece of art paper. I like the rainbow thing, thought of using it in the card. A pop up maybe...? Too ambitious? It is going to a three year old...

Hmmm, I'm quite attached to that rainbow, I think I'll keep it. Now what? Insides quite empty...

Still got some cool graphics left. Can't let those go to waste. Hehe...

Don't they just look so pretty in the card now. I'm keeping the rainbow, it's currently stuck on my wall...

On another note, I am currently researching on paper mache. Always knew the theory, but never really made it as far as I can recall.

I have to make a pinata for my nephew's birthday party. It has to look like Optimus Prime. Riiigghttt.... I can't figure out where to start. I'm trying to cheat here by finding a Prime head ready so I don't have to make it.

When you think about it, it is going to get all bashed up in the end... All that work...

Why couldn't he have chosen a dinosaur egg or something? That would've made a lot of sense, sorta like the eggs from Alien the movie. All the more reason why it should be bashed up!

Apparently the flour and water method doesn't work in this climate, it's to humid.

Wish me luck!

Buku Hantaran: Bronze & Purple

Sorry for the no update. I was royally sick with the flu. Last time I remembered being laid up in bed with a burning fever and runny nose and a hacking cough was twelve years ago, my first winter studying overseas. I remembered losing my voice and being prescribed antibiotics and had to take it for two weeks.

This time I got prescribed with five different types of meds, and was in the A&E for three hours waiting to see the doctor on a Sunday at ten at night. The ironic part was the day before, Saturday, I brought the boyfriend to the A&E to see the doctor cos he was down with the flu. And the next day he was the one bringing me.

I also had a wedding order to do the week of being sick. Whenever I felt fine enough to stand for a bit, I worked a bit. So this dowry folder* was done in between me lying down a lot. Good thing the client wanted it simple. Only I wasn't sure how to work bronze and purple together, and she likes ribbons, so, I ended up with this.

I have lots of different shades of purple ribbons now. There're about six different colours in four different widths of ribbons. I'm liking these mixing up of ribbons...

*Dowry Folder... I figured a quick explanation would be helpful for the non South East Asian readers, in my culture, one of the thing prior to the actual wedding is that the soon to be bride gets a bunch of stuff she asks from the soon to be groom. And people always try to be innovative on how the list gets given from bride side to the family, to the groom side of the family, I remembered a bamboo was involved one time... Last year I was asked to make a folder for such list and I've been making the dowry folder or 'buku permintaan' ever since. I like to make mine as personalised to them as possible cos I envisioned these folders to have other lives, picture frame or something :-p
